Join the members of Halifax Calder Rotary on our virtual climb of Wainhouse Tower to raise funds for Overgate Hospice.

Story

Overgate Hospice began caring for the Calderdale community in 1981. Since this time Overgate has seen many changes but the focus has always been to provide the highest quality of care for those in our community facing the end of their life. They provide end of life, respite, day care, patient and family support at a most challenging time.

Overgate Hospice heavily rely upon donations from the public to enable their doors to remain open. Unfortunately, the worldwide pandemic and the governmental restrictions have severely affected their planned fundraising events since March of this year. In turn, there has been a significant drop in income for Overgate Hospice.

This December, I will be joining the Halifax Calder Rotary's virtual "Climb the Tower" event, where I am being asked to climb (or walk the equivalent distance of) the height of a local landmark - Wainhouse Tower. We are trying to raise some much needed funds to inject into this excellent charity, which stands at the heart of the Calderdale community.

The Tower has 403 steps the equivalent of 1 km on the flat. At my ripe age of 79 years and 9 months, I want to climb this tower 30 times in December. This means going up my stairs 403 times or walking a total of 30 km or a combination of both. My target is to raise £1000.

Please give what you are able and let's do what we can to ensure that Overgate Hospice can continue to serve its patients and families for many years to come.

Thanks for your support. (PS slippers pre Rotary Zoom meeting).
