NASGP- supporting colleagues abroad

NASGP- supporting colleagues abroad · 17 May 2018
Last month we announced our new partnership with the charity Health Poverty Action who work across 17 countries globally to support some of the world’s poorest communities access healthcare. They work with a range of healthcare professionals who work tirelessly in their communities to bring about change.
NASGP is honoured to be standing shoulder to shoulder with
incredible health professionals, like Dr Samy Juarez, Director of San Carlos Sija Health Centre in Guatemala:
"As a doctor working in public health, the hardest thing for me is the lack of medical equipment and medicine. It affects me pscyhologically to say to a patient: "We have none, no vaccines, no contraceptives, no painkillers. Proper medical attention isn't just about the doctor- it's also about the resources" Dr Samy Juarez
As part of our commitment to supporting colleagues working abroad, NASGP has set up this fundraising page with the hope that we can easily surpass raising £10,000 together. NASGP supports thousands of locum GPs here in the UK and if each of its members donated just £10 we could easily hit our target.
The funds raised through NASGP fundraising could make a significant impact to health professionals working overseas by providing additional training and resources. For instance £10,000 could:
“I want to thank those leaders or professionals who want to help us improve health services. A small example is the way [HPA] has donated a heater for our maternity service which is in a cold part of the country. Just heating the room makes our service that little bit more human, and that kind of donation is very significant for a marginalized country like Guatemala; it inspires us to improve service delivery, and to seek other support”. Dr Samy Juarez.
