Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Ward 11 is a 22 bedded Children's ward at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. We look after children aged from 2-18 years old with Orthopaedic (Bones) and Oncology (Cancer) Conditions.
At the moment we have a fantastic Teenage chill out unit which was very kindly donated by the Teenage Cancer Trust. This is a specific area for Teenagers aged 12-18 years old to go and relax whilst playing on the fantastic facilities available such as Laptops/Xbox/Playstation/Wii which is all connected to a wide screen tv whilst listening to their favourite songs on the Juke box!
The reason why this page has been set up is not for those teenagers but for the children aged 2-11 years old. Unfortunately this age group do not have access to the above facilities and so we are trying to raise enough money to build and equip an equally fantastic new playroom for this age group of children. Hence the reason why we now need your donations to make 'Project Playroom' happen!
Play is important for any child. Research shows that it is vital for healthy social and emotional development . Children communicate through play and can tell us about their worries and anxieties long before they are old enough to express themselves verbally. When a child is ill, and especially when they are in hospital, play has an even more crucial role both in helping them to cope with what is happening and also in recovery. How can we help children recover and encourage children to communicate and express their concerns through play if we do not have the appropriate facilities?!
This is why we are asking you to please dig deep and donate now.
