In 2009, my mum was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia and to be honest, we all feared the worst. She underwent intensive chemotherapy on an AML clinical trial. It was just awful watching her suffer, but she fought hard and incredibly, is still with us today. I am eternally grateful for that.
In 2020 my brother-in-law Karl was diagnosed with T-Cell Leukaemia . After months of intense treatment he was told that the Leukaemia had gone. He then had a stem cell transplant in April 2021 but unfortunately the Leukaemia returned aggressively and he sadly died 6 weeks later on 22nd December 2021, leaving his young children and wife devastated. Karl was amazing dad and husband, always kind, funny and strong. He is sadly missed by all who knew him.
Please, if you have a few pennies to spare, throw them in my Just Giving pot. It really does make a difference. My mum is testament to that. I’ve had 13 more years with her than I expected I would in 2009 and hopefully there will be many more to come. She is my inspiration. 💕💕
But still more needs to be done so others don’t have to go through what my sister-in-law, niece and nephew are living with now.
RIP Karl xx
Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.
