Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Tom was just 3 and a half, and Katie only a year old when my Mum lost her 25 year battle with breast cancer but amazingly his memory of her is vivid. Everyone who met Ann knows what an amazing woman she was and what an inspiration she was. I came close to losing her when I was in Junior school, and again in 1999 but thanks to her strength, courage and fantastic medical team she survived long enough to meet and enjoy Tom and Katie.

Tom has written this story about why we are doing the Race for Life in her memory.

Nanny

My Nanny was called Ann. She came from Liverpool and she was a Liverpool supporter. She had brown hair, wore glasses and she walked with crutches. When I was a baby she gave me cuddles and when I was a big boy I never left her side. My mum said that when she felt very poorly I was the only one who could make her smile. I never left her side when she came to our house.

Nanny used to sing funny songs to me and read me stories. She used to play basketball in the garden with me and say "Oh bum" when she missed! I used to tip my lego over her. She used to tell my Gramps off for eating too much!

My Nanny first got cancer when my Mum was a little girl like Katie. The doctors kept making her better for a long time and she had lots of operations and took lots of medicine. They did a good job because my mum was a grown up when her mum died and she had me and Katie by then!

One day when I was 3 and a half my Mum told me that the doctors couldn't make Nanny better anymore and that she was going to live in heaven with Nanny Sal.

I miss my Nanny lots. She never got to see me in my school uniform, see my new house or meet my friends.

Please help us to raise money to find a cure for this horrible disease.

Thankyou

Tom McCombe
