Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 29th March, John and I are running the Liverpool Half Marathon in memory of my mum, Ann.
In 1983 I came home from Brownies one night to be told that we were staying at a friend's house that night. My mum hadn't been let out of hospital as planned. It turned out that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy eventually put her into remission but a few years later, lightening struck again in the other side - extremely rare. This cancer turned out to be much more aggressive than the first one and once again my Mum was faced with chemotherapy. Despite poor odds, as a result of the then modern medicine, she was once again put into remission during which time she thankfully got to see us grow up.
Unfortunately, this time it came back in her bones, and she was given the terminal diagnosis in 1999 and was given 6 months. Treatment now was to buy her time and ease her symptoms. She was very poorly when she went to the Christie hospital in an ambulance. Whatever they did there certainly worked well as it actually bought her 8 more years, during which time she became a much loved Nanny and enjoyed a good quality of life for much of that time.
My mum died in October 2007 and not a day goes by when I don't think about her and miss her, but I will always be grateful for the time that medicine bought us.
Cancer is such an awful disease that has also affected other family members and friends.
Please sponsor me and hopefully soon a cure will be found.
