Yorkshire Day Skydive · 1 August 2021

At YBTC, we walk beside anyone impacted by a brain tumour diagnosis through every step of their journey. Our local support brings comfort, care, and hope to families across Yorkshire- while our local research and investment in 'pump priming' brings us closer to kinder treatments and a cure.

Story

“Health is Wealth”  the irony being, it was a phrase I learnt from my friend Hannah. I remember thinking back then how true that statement was never really considering the sudden impact that meaning could have.

So when I received a call over a year ago to be told Hannah was in ICU following a seizure and was being examined for a brain tumour, I was absolutely devastated for Hannah and her young family.  Our  fears were realised when Hannah (at the age of 33) was diagnosed with a low grade glioma and would need brain surgery to remove the tumour. A nightmare totally exacerbated by the pandemic adding further fear to her situation.

Fortunately, Hannah is one of the lucky ones,  and I know how immensely grateful she is and particularly for the treatment, support and aftercare she received from everyone throughout her journey, in particularly the team at Leeds General Infirmary.

The mental and emotional strength I’ve witnessed has been nothing short of an inspiration! I have never seen/ heard Hannah complain once during this past year, something I can’t comprehend but is so telling of the amazing person she is, no doubt helped through the confidence she had in medical professionals supporting her.

So when Hannah asked me (so casually) if I wanted to do a skydive with her to raise money for Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity, I didn’t hesitate!

Yorkshire Brain Tumour (YBTC) is a charity that has supported Hannah and her family throughout there journey. We want to raise money to support the research and work they do and bring more awareness to the charity, so they can continue to support people like Hannah.

Brain Tumours can affect anyone, at any time. They are the single biggest killer of the under 40's in the UKEvery week approx 15 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in Yorkshire. Research has been underfunded for brain tumours, with current treatments nearly 40 years old.

YBTC aim to fund world-class research here in Yorkshire to find treatments and a cure. Whilst they do that they will provide support to people living with and affected by brain tumours, emotionally, practically and financially for as long as they need us.

Any donation would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Natalie
