I am holding a coffee morning on 27th November 10:30-11:30am at Little Downham Community Rooms as part of Myeloma UK Coffee Morning Month in order to raise much-needed awareness and funds for a charity that is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma.
Myeloma is a bone marrow cancer for which there is, currently, no cure. Unlike many cancers, myeloma does not exist as a lump or tumour. It is a cancer arising from plasma cells, a type of white blood cell which is made in the bone marrow. Myeloma affects multiple places in the body - within the bones of the spine, skull, pelvis, rib cage, long bones of the arms and legs and the areas around the shoulders and hips.
My mum was diagnosed with myeloma last autumn. Over the last year, she has undergone and will continue to undergo cycles of treatment which include a combination of medicines that work well together such as chemotherapy drugs, steroids and other types of anti-myeloma drugs. The aim is for disease control - relieving the complications and symptoms it causes and extending and improving quality of life.
If you are unable to attend the coffee morning, but feel that you can donate in some small way on this JustGiving page, I would be extremely grateful.
Many, many thanks,
Natasha
