Story

When my partner left the Royal Navy, there was no support from the military regarding the fact he'd been to Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Afghanistan (4 times). These tours will have a lasting affect on his life. After leaving in 2011, he began to develop symptoms of PTSD. This was new to us and we had no idea how to deal with it. PTSD is a frightening condition to those who suffer with it and to those who are around it. Rob himself suffered with periods of extreme anger, being scared to go to sleep, depression, drinking issues, and seizures.

Personally, I was at the point where something needed to be done or it would destroy us as a couple and Rob as a person. I phoned COMBAT STRESS as a last resort and it was one of the best things I have ever done. Eventually Rob spoke to them himself and an outreach worker come to talk to him at home. This began a chain of events including counselling and the offer of a residential stay at their treatment centre.

We're now in 2019 and although PTSD will always play a part in our lives, we both know how to deal with it and we know that COMBAT STRESS are only a phone call away. As a couple we would not be here without their help and maybe Rob wouldn't be here at all.
