Story

Welcome to my charity fundraising page. My name is Natasha Allmark, and I am a 33 year old mother of five studying with the Open University.

You can find me via the usual social media channels, any help via shares, RTs, and donations is appreciated.

I am aiming to raise this money for The Stroke Association via sponsorship for a charity skydive which is booked with Tilstock Freefall Club in Shropshire on (Date to be confirmed - check updates because of weather conditions and safety). However I will be continuing to fundraise via other events throughout the year.

The inspiration behind starting this charity campaign is my mom. My mom (pictured) has had four strokes and is severely disabled as a consequence. My mom has always wanted to do a skydive, but unfortunately because of her health issues she has been unable. It is also a big thing for me to do since I am terrified of heights and have always sworn this is something I would not do. I also suffer with anxiety so to put myself through this really is a big thing.

I have watched my mom struggle for years, and though it isn't brilliant now, thankfully life has improved for her since the last stroke. My mom had her first ministroke (A ministroke is also known as a transient ischemic attack or TIA) at the young age of 21, with another following when she was 33. At 39 my mom had the big stroke leaving her severely disabled. For a while my mom could not eat, walk, talk or use the toilet alone. Now she can walk using her left leg for support, uses her left arm for what she used to use her right, and has improved her speech to a point where for the most part we understand her. Unfortunately another followed a few years later but thanks to quick treatment and the medication my mom is on, we didn't see any major effects. One thing I do know is that my mom is a survivor. Not just a stroke survivor, but a true survivor in all respects, raising myself and my three sisters alone with many problems along the way.

My mom was in hospital for quite some time, and when she came home we had to care for her. We did this largely on our own as teenagers, and my sister effectively raised my younger sisters, where I didn't cope so well and struggled in my late teens.

My sister still lives with my mom and still cares for her now as well as working, raising her twin girls, and being a rock for the rest of us. Melissa has sacrificed a lot for all of us, and kept us all together when we have struggled. This charity jump is just as much for my sister as it is for my mom.

I think it is important to show that anyone can be a survivor with the right support. That is why this charity means so much to me. This skydive gives us a chance to hopefully raise a fantastic amount of money for The Stroke Association to support other survivors of stroke. It also gives me a chance to show my children that anyone can face their fears (mine being heights) especially when it helps others - others who didn't have a choice.

The deposit for the skydive has been paid thank you to kind donations from two friends, and the jump will go ahead when restrictions are lifted and the weather enables us to do so.

The Stroke Association is often overlooked when it comes to charity fundraising and this bothers me, because stroke survivors may not lose their lives in the literal sense of the word, but they lose themselves, everything they have ever worked for and loved, and they certainly lose the life they had. More support must to be given to stroke survivors.

Please help me raise money for stroke survivors across the UK by sponsoring us for our charity skydive and throughout our fundraising efforts. This is officially in partnership with The Stroke Association. #TeamStroke

Any help and support is appreciated. Shares and RTs too.

Thank you,

Natasha (Allmark) 💜
