1:6000 children are born with microtia. Microtia results in underdeveloped ear(s) and impacts hearing. It can impact the heart, kidneys, different parts of the face and spine. There is an ongoing question whether microtia is environmental or genetic or a combination.

Story

Hi all, my partner and I are signed up to do the 10 mile tough mudder (the thought petrifies me😂) all in aid of microtia UK, many may not of heard of this it’s a Greek word meaning (little ear)

Microtia is frequently accompanied by atresia which means most people with microtia have some degree of hearing loss, it’s a rare condition affecting (1 in 6000) babies. And seems to affect more boys than girls and affects the right ear more than the left.

Our son Rudy was born with microtia with no ear Canal so is permanently deaf until he’s a little older in which they will reconstruct his ear with cartilage from his rib cage and skin from his thigh, and build an ear canal leading up to this is numerous appointments with amazing reassuring consultants. It took a while for me to get my head round this until I read more into it an joined a microtia uk support group, as we had never heard of microtia or what it involved,  My partner and I felt a bit hopeless and wanted to help so are now fundraising for this amazing charity in any way we can by starting off with a 10 mile tough mudder on the 22nd September and this will be just one of many.

Money raised will help towards developing research in the field of microtia

Community development which is vital for our children

Education and publications

Any amount of money raised will be greatfuly received by microtia Uk.

THANKYOU for taking the time to read my story
