Story

Lord Gawain Douglas will recite Tennyson's Morte d'Arthur live on Facebook as a way of connecting with others but also to raise money for Catching Lives, a charity extremely close to home and heart.

Morte d’Arthur by Tennyson is a poetic masterpiece of the Victorian era, very relevant to our present very troubled times.  It speaks of betrayal, loyalty heroism and the Armageddon of the early Middle Ages.
King Arthur’s court and his round table of heroic knights are destroyed,
but a powerful message of hope, renewal and faith arises at the end of the poem.

I've chosen catching Lives because it is a small, independent, Canterbury based, and, especially now, in great need of any
assistance.  I connect with its vision of a society where all are
included, and all, no matter how disadvantaged, can make a contribution. It has a great ethos of inclusivity.

In practical terms, they offer immediate respite, a breakfast and a
freshly cooked lunch, advice with any issues such as finding accommodation, and directing clients to agencies which help those who have served in the armed forces, or those who have suffered domestic abuse.

Above all they reach out to those who have fallen through the gaps in society and feel they have nowhere to turn, and help them to find motivation for a renewed and independent life.
