CW: SV, Eating disorder
RASASC supports a cause which is near and dear to my heart. I myself am a survivor, and I have found great comfort and meaning in doing everything in my power to help others who went through what I did, and prevent it from happening to more people. Raising money for RASASC is one way of doing this.
After experiencing sexual violence at university, my whole world crumbled. I developed a severe eating disorder which landed me in hospital multiple times, and I lost my ability to study, maintain friendships, and run. I have since regained my strength and have been using this energy to become an advocate.
I am now a full time Sabbatical Officer at a student union, and so helping survivors of sexual violence navigate a university's complaint process and making it easier for them in the long run has been an integral part of my role. Just this month I have successfully finished reviewing my university's student discipline procedures from scratch, a feat which my predecessors have been aiming for for the last 23 years. Survivors can now know the outcome of procedures relating to them and can have their university proceedings continue even if there are police or criminal proceedings taking place at the same time (previously, neither of these two things had been true).
