Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Inspired by our incredible National Health Service heroes and my amazing mother who devoted her entire working career of over 40 years to the NHS, I wanted to do my bit to give something back...

...From Thursday 23rd until Sunday 26th April I will be taking on the challenge of walking the equivalent of Peru’s classic Inca Trail (a four-day trek) predominantly within the confines of my small London flat and carrying all of my own ‘trekking gear’, weighing 20kg. Whilst the actual Inca Trail winds its way through beautiful cloud forest and climbs to high altitude amidst the Andean mountains to culminate at the Sun Gate overlooking Machu Picchu, my version will entail me walking up and down the narrow staircase in my flat a total of 1,120 times (or 280 times a day) in order to reach the 3020m of total ascent and 3110m of total descent which the trail involves. In order to reach the total distance of the Inca Trail (44km), I will also be using my allotted daily hour of outdoor exercise, whilst still carrying my 20kg.

I won’t have the scenic Andean views to spur me on but I hope to be able to raise some money for the NHS. For authenticity this 4 day trek will include me camping in my back garden on the final night, before getting up at 4am to complete the trek with my version of the sun gate.

This is not an easy trek and all donations would be greatly appreciated.
