Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm Nathan, a 26-year-old research student at the University of Oxford. The pandemic and last two years have been hard on many, my family amongst them. Covid targets the sick and vulnerable and sadly heart disease is too common. It claimed the lives of my grandfather and step-father and in March 2020 heart problems put my father, Steve Websdale, in the ICU of Brighton hospital. He should have recovered, rehabilitated and come back out to reclaim his life. Things didn't go that way. Covid flooded the ward and despite three months of desperate treatment from doctors and nurses and their allowances for my family's visitation (PPE worn at all times) at the height of the pandemic, we lost him in June.
Without heart disease he wouldn't have even been there.
Therefore, I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation, and I'd be very grateful for and humbled by your support. On the 19th June 2022, I will be taking part in the 54-mile one-day bike ride from London to Brighton, the city my father lived and died in. In his memory and those of all others lost to heart disease and the pandemic we will ride and help keep the vulnerable as far from harm as we are able.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
