Story

I am running the London Marathon for Macmillan this year because my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in
2020. She was
diagnosed late April 2020 and was pronounced all clear around August 2021 thus
meaning the main parts of the treatment (eg Chemotherapy, Surgery &
Radiotherapy) were either taking place during a lockdown or when there were
high restrictions in place. However, the Macmillan Unit at West Suffolk
Hospital were incredibly supportive to my Mum and by extension to us as a
family. The Day Unit where Mum received her treatment was an oasis of calm
during the pandemic and the staff unfailingly cheerful.   Whilst
Mum was fortunate and did not need extra treatment during the months of
Chemotherapy, the fact that we had a 24 hour helpline to the hospital gave me
and my Dad extra peace of mind.  Mum,
also, received support from the Macmillan Navigators.  She received counselling to help her cope
with the diagnosis and fortnightly phone calls from a Navigator based at West
Suffolk Hospital whilst she was waiting for the counselling to begin.  Counselling was also offered to my younger
brother and myself.  Mum was also able to
get support from Macmillan when she began her return to work, whilst still
undergoing treatment, as she was able to get advice on her rights as an
employee.

I want to support Macmillan because of the amazing amount of support
they have given not only to Mum and us but to every cancer patient.  Please donate to this amazing cause which
helps so many people with such a life changing illness.
