Story

For the last 2 years i have done something for charities that are close to my heart. In 2020 i will be raising money for a charity that is close to someone else heart.

Next year i will be walking the Leeds to Liverpool canal, the 127 mile walk will be challenging and should take me roughly 10 days to complete if i can walk around 12 miles per day!

This may seem a lot but for a good cause it is always worth it. For this year i will be raising money for a charity called AGSD (Assosiation for Glycogen Storage Disease) which supports the children who suffer from GSD and the parents who care for these children.

A glycogen storage disease (GSD, also glycogenosis and dextrinosis) is a Metabolic disorder caused enzyme deficiencies affecting either glycogen synthesis, glycogen breakdown or glycolisis (glucose breakdown), typically within muscles and/or liver cells. GSD has many different types and sub types. This horrible disease can cause many problems for children including motor development delay, enlarged liver and slowed growth as well as hypoglycemia and hyperketosis.

The little boy who has inspired me to do this walk for this charity is called Alphie. Alphie suffers from type 9a of GSD and this has had a massive impact on his childhood. He struggles to walk distances big or small due the muscle fatigue and he has also had to have gastrostomy (feeding tube) to help give him the energy and nutrients he needs to combat his disease. Only 1 in 100,00 children suffer from GSD TYPE 9A making this a very rare disease, despite this alphie continues to smile and laugh daily despite the pain and illness he suffers.

This is a great cause to get behind to help the next generation of this world.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope this will inspire you to donate and help children like alphie.
