Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 23,following 2 years of training, I will be in Morocco, lining up on the start line, in readiness to compete in what has been classed as The Toughest Footrace on Earth, The 37th Edition of the infamous Marathon Des Sables.
From someone who has taken part in some horrendously difficult fund raising challenges in the past I expect this to be the most difficult yet, a truly gruelling multi-stage adventure in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, the Sahara Desert. Without dispute its classed as the Toughest Footrace on Earth for a reason. Physically, it is six days’ running over 250 kms (156 miles) across endless sand dunes, rocky jebels and white-hot salt plains, carrying what you need to survive on your back. Mentally and physically it is the ultimate challenge.
I am competing in this event to raise money for the amazing people at The Dougie Mac Hospice and in memory of my Mum, Connie who we lost in September last year. The care they showed to my Mum and my family during her last few days, when we really needed it, was nothing short of remarkable and I wanted to show my thanks by raising some much needed funds for them.
Dougie Mac provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3500 adults, young adults and children living with a life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages; also offering supportive care for their families and carers. As with my Mum they help adults and Children living with cancer and also non-cancer life-limiting illnesses such as advanced heart failure, Dementia, motor neurone disease and incurable lung diseases. Please help me help them by donating what you can.
