Story
The Lichfield & Hatherton Canal Restoration Trust (LHCRT) is a fully volunteer team that is working to restore an historic English canal! The original canal was originally built in the late 18th Century to carry coal during the Industrial Revolution, but was sold off piecemeal in the twentieth century and largely destroyed- bridges knocked down, canals drained and filled in.
But now the canal is returning! And this time, rather than transporting coal, it will be transformed into a wildlife corridor, walking/biking trails, and of course a beautiful waterway. This is an amazing example of how preserving historical spaces can benefit modern communities!
£500 goes a long way! It's enough to buy an entire lorry-load of concrete to fill in the base of the channel with! So let's help out as best we can to restore this beautiful piece of history!
