NavTrek's 4 Trig Traverse · 4 December 2021

For Young People. For Mental Health. For the Future. Right now, levels of mental ill health amongst young people are on the rise. 1 in 10 children in Cumbria have emotional and wellbeing problems. Wave Forward aims to turn the tide on this rise. .

Story

Raising money and promoting wellbeing through group walks in the Lake District!

NavTrek has been leading walks in the Lake District over the past 3 months to raise money for the local charity Wave Forward.

Wave Forward is supporting young people (aged 12 to 25) in South Cumbria to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

Levels of mental ill health amongst young people in South Cumbria, and waiting lists for services, are increasing and research by Cumbria Community Foundation (Cumbria Revealed) confirms that 1 in 10 children in Cumbria have emotional and wellbeing problems. Hospital admissions for mental health issues and self harm are at a higher rate in Cumbria than nationally.

Wave Forward aim to address this by working with young people to design and deliver new therapeutic support programs, within local schools and the community, and by running campaigns and events, and providing training, to promote wellbeing and raise awareness and understanding of mental ill health.

Our initial plan to complete a Howgill traverse will unfortunately not be going ahead, instead we will be completing the Fairfield horseshoe on the December 4th 2021 - in aid of Wave Forward.

The Fairfield horseshoe walk is a 16km journey with 1100 meters of ascent, taking in the following peaks:

If you would like to join us for the event, tickets are available at www.NavTrek.org and 100% of the ticket fee will be donated to Wave Forward.
