Story

A group of 15 of us are organising and taking part in the Holme Valley Circular Walk Challenge, in aid of The Huw Thatcher Trust, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire on the Saturday 12th October 2013. We have forcast the walk to take 9-10 hours approx as there is lots of difficult terrain within the Holme Valley, it will be no easy task. We will be starting at around 8 a.m. and aim to finish by 7 p.m. at the latest. The route is a set walk that is a total of 24 miles long, which involves almost 4000 ft of total acsent (!!), starting and ending in Berry Brow, Huddersfield.

We got a journalist from the Huddersfield Daily Examiner to take a picture of the group and to help us raise awareness for the cause. Here's the link to the article on the newspaper's website with more info about the walk and the Huw Thatcher Trust

The reason we are doing this walk is in aid of The Huw Thatcher Trust to support the Disabilities Trust as one of our group members (Will Clowes) was a close friend of Huw's before he sadly passed away from suffering a brain haemorrhage in 2011. The charity supports people who have suffered brain haemorrhages and are left with brain related disabilities.

The challenge is taking place as part of our social action project for the National Citizenship Service (NCS). NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people aged 16-17 that helps you build your skills for work and life, while you take on challenges and meet new friends.
