Story
In 2007 I had a serious bike accident and I needed to be airlifted to hospital for intensive care treatment. Thankfully I survived and the airlift certainly played a major part in that. I can't fly helicopters so in order to pay a little back I am a rider, fundraiser and controller for Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes.
Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes are a charity which is wholly run by volunteers (there are no paid employees). The aim of the blood bikes is to transport blood products, patient samples, medical files, frozen human breast milk for premature babies and much more, FREE OF CHARGE for the NHS. This includes the transporting of blood products for the Lincs Notts Air Ambulance. Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes' many vehicles cost around £10,000 per month to run. Their efforts result in huge savings for the NHS as every pound they are given results in a saving of roughly £5 for the NHS.
This year I am running the London marathon. I am 55 and not getting any younger so a marathon is a really tough undertaking. To make my efforts really pay dividends, I am running to raise funds for Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes and would appreciate your support
