Swim22 for Diabetes UK

Swim22 2019 · 22 May 2019 ·
Early in 2018 I knew that something was wrong with me. Over the next couple of months I had a battery of tests before two diagnosis's were reached.
First, I had a mobility issue with two of my vertebrae. Secondly I have Type 2 Diabetes.
I live in Guernsey which means that our healthcare is provided locally. I was lucky to have fantastic support from my doctor and great education sessions from nurses.
All of them recommended Diabetes UK as an excellent resource for knowledge and education. In addition, all the support material and handouts were written and provided by Diabetes UK.
Through the education that I received, I was able to learn causes and effect of how the various food types would impact me and how I could control and manage my condition.
Bringing my blood sugar under control allowed me to start taking additional steps. I started swimming and now swim nearly every day. I have dropped 40KG (6.3 Stone) in weight to date since July 2018 and my HbA1c has gone from 17 at diagnosis to 5.2 at last check.
I'd like to raise a little money so Diabetes UK can continue to provide the support and education that I received so that others can have the opportunity to gain the knowledge that they need to take control of their condition.
