Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I work for Surrey fire and rescue service and have been given the opportunity to raise money for the Firefighters charity. The Firefighters charity will be taking a team of 50 people to represent the UK. I will be running with other firefighters from Surrey. We will be attempting the run, a distance of 5k in full Fire kit, this will make the run a lot more demanding. We believe coverage of this event will be worldwide as it will be for the September 11th 10th anniversary. The money raised will go to the Firefighters charity which helps injured firefighters and their families.
In memory of the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York Fire Fighter and all the 9/11 victims.
Stephen Siller was a fire fighter from Squad 1, Park Slope Brooklyn. On 9/11, he was off-duty but upon hearing that the World Trade Centre had been hit, he headed towards the site. When his truck was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, typically of him, he raced on foot towards the site with his gear strapped to his back.
He was last seen alive on West and Liberty Streets where he, more than likely, went looking for his Squad, all of whom perished. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Stephen's footsteps on that fateful day.
In running along his path on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, we honour the memory of all the fire fighters and EMS workers who performed their duty that day. In running this race, we are reclaiming still another part of the city for all our heroes and for all of those who died on 9/11. They will never be forgotten!
