Great North Run 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Dementia Quote 24

I already have butterflies in my stomach at the thought of the 50K + wave of runners starting with me the Great North Run - Half Marathon - Great Run on Sunday, September 12, 2021.  Its a hugely emotional run on many fronts as you realise many people are running for charities and for those they want to respect & remember both living and no longer with us.  Proud to be running on behalf of Alzheimer's Society @alzheimerssoc

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Dementia is a global concern . The Alzheimer’s Society (2014) reports there are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. Of these, approximately, 42,000 are people with young onset dementia, which affects people under the age of 65. As a person’s age increases, so does the risk of them developing dementia. It is estimated that the number of people living with dementia in the UK by 2025 will rise to over one million. Rates of diagnosis are improving but many people with dementia are thought to still be undiagnosed.
