Three Peaks Challenge · 11 June 2010

Social Life Opportunities (SoLO) is a charity which enables children, young people and adults with learning disabilities to enjoy social and leisure activities that the rest of us take for granted.

Story

On June 11-12th Rosie Greenfield, Andy Johns, James McHale and Neil Holdsworth (strongly aided by key driver Ashley Bladon) aim to undertake the three peaks challenge. This involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland within a period of 24 hours.

As well as the serious physical effort involved, the challenge will also test our mental strength. In addition to the obvious sleep deprivation a number of serious questions are likely to be answered; how will James operate when he doesn’t start the day with a Skinny Latte and the Racing Post? What will Andy do when his Blackberry goes out of range? Will Neil wander off more than usual? How mad are we to let Ashley drive us around the UK? Will Rosie kill anyone after 24 hours with four boys deprived of sleep?

As well as answering these important questions for the benefit of humanity we are also undertaking the challenge to help raise funds for SoLO, a registered charity based in the West Midlands. SoLO provides social and leisure opportunities for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities to enable them to enjoy social and leisure opportunities that the rest of us take for granted. Neil has seen the benefits of SoLO first hand as his brother has benefited greatly from the charity’s work and knows what a major impact SoLO’s work can have on the lives of those with learning disabilities and their carers.

You can read more about SoLO’s work, a large proportion of which is undertaken by volunteers,  along with examples of the services it offers, on its website at www.solihullsolo.org

We all agree that SoLO is a fantastic organisation and a very worthy cause for our efforts, and have set ourselves a modest total fundraising target of £2000 as a group. We hope everyone will be very generous and we will raise more! Any money donated in support of our attempt will go direct to SoLO as we are funding the cost of undertaking the challenge ourselves.

Thanks,

Andy, Rosie, James, Neil and Ashley!'
