8,400 Mile Cross Country Ride to Support Homeless Families

8,400 Mile Ride Across America to Support Homeless Families in Frederick County · 18 April 2022
It has been Neil's pleasure to serve as the Director of the Emergency Family Shelter at The Religious Coalition for the past five years. Neil started with the program as a volunteer at its inception in 2014. After 8 years, Neil will be retiring from an organization he has been proud to be a part of.
We will celebrate the milestone with an 8,400-mile bike ride to the West Coast and back. But we aren't riding off into the sunset. Instead, we are using the ride as an opportunity to raise money in support of a new Emergency Family Shelter Endowment Fund which will provide funding for the program for years to come. We've done this before: thirty-three years ago, we did our first cross country bike ride, totaling 4,000 miles. Our daughter Claire's own fundraising ride across country 3 years ago inspired Margarete's suggestion to turn this into a fundraising opportunity for the Coalition. This time, Margarete suggested instead of stopping our trip on the West Coast, we will be returning to Frederick on our bikes.
Several years ago, the Coalition started the process of rehabilitating an old Frederick Farmhouse, turning it into a new home for the Coalition's Emergency Family Shelter Program. Frederick residents came together to create a new Frederick Community resource to serve families in need. With the support and generosity of the community, we celebrated the Grand Opening at the end of February. The Coalition has established an endowment fund to help provide ongoing support for the program in perpetuity.
We humbly ask you to contribute to our efforts with a gift to the newly established Emergency Family Shelter Endowment Fund.
