The cycle is in aid of East Belfast Mission's exciting new Skainos project. The Skainos website is very informative and worth a look www.skainos.org.

The cycle is for 1000 miles over two weeks in June this summer starting in West Virginia and finishing in Florida.. At present I am aiming for the easy option and cycling at least 500 miles! I'll either be very fit or as Peter (my teenage son says it'll kill me!) I'm training for 100 miles per week and have cycled recently up Spelga Dam, round the Ards peninsula and down to Tyrella Beach near Newcastle.Some kind friends are sponsoring me for my training period with a monthly amount. The picture opposite shows three cycling buddies refuelling in Kilkeel at the Cookie Jar.

My £7000 will go particularly towards helping pay for equipment used to teach life skills to people who are homeless. The life skills training equipment will help people to be independent and enable them to live and stay in their own homes.
