I was extremely lucky to have such supportive family and friends when I came out, but this is sadly not the case for everyone. Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people AKT supports. Sometimes families are unaccepting and abusive. The locks changed. Possessions destroyed. AKT exists to support these young people and can offer safety and hope in an open and accepting environment. We help with housing and also to help them celebrate their identity.
