Remembering Nell - our ray of sunshine

On 10th of January 2014, our world was changed forever when a routine midwife check showed that our baby had no heart beat at 38 weeks. Our baby girl, Nell Isobel Rogers, was delivered naturally on 12th January 2014. She was absolutely perfect and the image of her big sister Emmy. There was no reason why Nell died and we will always ask ourselves why. She was only held for moments but will be loved for a lifetime by her mummy and daddy, big sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. When we left the hospital, we were given a memory box from SANDS that contained locks of Nell's hair, footprints, handprints, teddies and precious photos of us with Nell that the midwives had taken. The box also contained much needed information and advice which would help us on our journey as bereaved parents as well as information for grandparents and other family members. Words cannot describe how special this memory box is to us and we would have been even more lost without it. The care and support we received from the midwives at Wishaw General was fantastic. We were able to spend as much time as we needed with Nell and she was beside us at all times. We are also receiving on going support from the specialist bereavement midwife at the hospital to help us to manage our grief. As these two bodies have been helped us so much, we want to raise funds to help SANDS continue with their memory boxes and also for the NHS Lanarkshire Wishaw General Hospital Memorial Fund (Maternity Bereavement). The funds raised for Wishaw General will go towards the provision of a special family room which will allow parents to spend time with their little ones before they have to say goodbye, away from the labour ward environment. This is something that would have been of immense benefit to us when we had Nell with us. The money raised on this page is for SANDS national but the money will be sent to the Glasgow SANDS office. We will be holding other fundraisers during the year for the Wishaw General Fund. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Sands has a nationwide group of local networks run by bereaved parents to support anyone affected by the loss of a baby. Our local group, Glasgow Sands is part of this network and 100% of your donations will be used to support their work. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Sands will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 25% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you. The Gift Aid is used to support Sands work across the UK.
