Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page. We aim to provide holistic care to babies and their families whilst they are on the Neonatal Unit at Royal Preston Hospital.Your donations will help us enhance their experience at a very emotional time.

Here is the story of one baby, told by her proud father, Mark Hyde. He and his fiancee, Jen are fundraising through their Wedding list for our appeal:

"Historically, wedding attendees have given gifts, vouchers and holiday donations to the happy couple as a way of celebrating the 'big day'. However, our 'big day' was on the 26th April 2007. The birth of Casey was the 'biggest day' in our lives and for 3 months after, every day was a 'monumental day'.

Casey was born after 28 weeks (due to Jen suffering from pre-eclampsia) and weighed 1lb 13oz. Casey was rushed out of the operating theatre in an incubator. An incubator would be her home for a further 2 months....Like all babies, her weight dropped and within days Casey was 1lb 9oz. It was very worrying times to see if Casey would survive. The nurses were so calm and supportive right from the outset. This support coupled with the equipment used gave Jen and I hope and gave Casey the best opportunity to stay alive.

For those that have their own children/cousins/nieces/nephews, imagine not being able to pick them up properly for the first few weeks of their life......it was an experience we would never wish on anyone....and we were the lucky ones whose child survived!!

Before Casey arrived, I had never heard of a 'neonatal unit'. Every single penny, every single pound will allow the neonatal unit to buy equipment to assist in giving a baby every opportunity to survive. Whilst Casey was in the Royal Preston Neonatal Unit she used an incubator 'donated by Mr & Mrs X' and various other bits of equipment/clothes 'donated by Mr & Mrs Y'.

For those that have met Casey, imagine if she hadn't been given the opportunity due to generosity of others. I have posted pictures to highlighted just how far Casey has come.......

Please donate what you can to help increase the chances of survival and development for thousands of babies just like Casey.
