Befrienders Highland offers 1-1 befriending to people experiencing mental ill health, memory loss or who are a carer. Friendships are between the befriendee and a trained volunteer, either: face-to-face, by telephone or e-mail/letter. The aim of the friendship is to reduce loneliness & isolation.

Story

Thanks for coming to my page!

Its been a few years since I challenged myself and I have been trying to pin point exactly what I wanted to do! The “who for” was easy, I have just joined the wonderful team at Befrienders Highland and the more I learn about the amazing work they do the more I want people to know about them, and of course the fabulous work they do for people who are isolated, lonely, suffering ill mental health, memory loss, dementia and also for carers.

I started back hill walking last year and it has brought back so much happiness to my life. With this journey I have made a lot of new friends who share the same passion for the outside and hills and how they can lift your mental and physical well being.

So this seemed like a great opportunity to take on 2 walks I have wanted to achieve...... but do them back to back to give it some extra challenge!! Just a mere 175 miles... starting in Milngavie near Glasgow and walking home over the hills to my home town of Inverness via the West Highland Way and the Great Glen way.

During my hike I want to bring people together, raise awareness of how you can help and support Befrienders Highland and I am starting my target at £1500 which is enough to fund a volunteer for one year!

Appreciate you taking the time to read this and please do get in touch if you want to know more or want to join me on my hike!

All the love,

Jo :) xx   aka Nessielass
