To try and raise much needed funds for CASY
My family and some of my friends have children that have been negatively affected by mental and emotional health issues. I am raising money to support CASY [Counselling and Support for Young People] who provide much needed counselling and support.
At least 50,000 young people aged between 6-25 within the East Midlands are having their lives negatively affected by mental and emotional health issues.
These Issues range from emotional disorders, such as anxiety or depression, to behavioural problems and disorders such as ADHD, and a recent survey suggested that as many as 1 in 15 people have self-harmed.
Good mental health is the foundation of a young person’s emotional and intellectual growth; it defines their sense of self-worth, provides confidence, independence and resilience.
CASY (Counselling and Support for Young People) is a charity whose aim is the promotion and preservation of good mental health among young people.
The charity started in 1998, and since then has grown to a staff of 6 and around 65 counsellors (many of whom volunteer their time). Demand for their counselling service is increasing by around 15% each year and demand for their community-based counselling increased by 65% since 2015/16. They provide 150 sessions of counselling each week, from their community settings in the East Midlands.
CASY is also actively involved in developing the next generation of counsellors to work with young people, and give support and training to teachers, school staff, community workers and staff from other agencies.
Their mission is to ensure the best possible mental and emotional health of children and young people throughout the East Midlands, for them to have a mentally and emotionally healthy future.
