Nevis Hike For Linda

Over the next few months, our family and friends will be raising awareness about early onset Dementia. 1 year ago we lost the heart and soul of our family to early onset Dementia, an illness that slowly destroys the functioning of the mind and challenges the person and their loved ones to the absolute maximum. Over 42,000 people diagnosed with Dementia in the UK are aged between 30 and 65 and the numbers are rising. It is a life-changing condition to have at any age, but when you are younger and believe you have a long and full life ahead of you, the impact is much different.
After an 11 year battle, our mum Linda, aged 61, passed away in her own home and by her side throughout was our dad Tony who devoted himself to her every need. Sadly, our mum's journey to her final breath was fraught with challenge as we tried to fight a system that fails to provide the right kind of support for young adults with Dementia. However one service that helped us massivley throughout our mums illness was Cornerstone Lanarkshire. Cornerstone carers provide person centred, practical and emotional support for adults who have long term, debilitating illnesses. Cornerstone rely heavily on charitable donations to survive in a poorly funded sector.
Please help us try and make a difference. Over the next few months we will be walking, running and cycling to prepare for a Ben Nevis climb in the Summer. This is to raise money for Cornerstone Lanarkshire to benefit adults with young onset Dementia who are faced with the same challenges we faced as a family. Any support will help make an impact and we are genuinely grateful for any donation in advance. For many people who knew our mum Linda, will know, that she had so much more life left to give. Cornerstone Lanarkshire help others in the same position, adapt and live life.
