Our choir is raising funds for Thames Hospice with our latest virtual choir recording of Duke Ellington's fabulously catchy and toe tapping number 'It Don't Mean A Thing'. This upbeat piece reflects the positive atmosphere created for the patients of Thames Hospice, where the best palliative end-of life-care is provided to the local community, giving dignity and comfort to those facing life-limiting illnesses.
This charity was nominated by one of our choir members as her parents received amazing support from the Hospice when they needed it. Please see Elaine's story below:-
I nominated Thames Hospice as a charity for NES after my father Eamon passed away in 2019 under their care. My mother (Mai) had also spent her final days at Thames Hospice 22 years earlier, and as a family we felt so grateful that our parents got to spend their final days in such a peaceful, light, bright environment, nursed by staff with the utmost care and dignity for them. Not only do the staff treat every patient with such care, but also their family - everyone we met was kind and supportive, leading up to, and after, we lost our Mum and Dad. Each patient is a person to those staff, who take time to get to know that person, their life story and their family. After we lost Dad on that sunny day in May 2019, as a family we spent time in the gardens at the Hospice, coming to terms with our loss surrounded by the beauty of nature, which had a profound effect on us. Such things cannot be underestimated, and we were allowed the time we needed. I have felt passionately since that day that I would do what I could to support the Hospice as they continue to care for members of our community. I would encourage anyone to go and see just what an amazing place this is, a place full of light and love.
I am so pleased that my choir, the New Egham Singers , agreed to support this charity that is so dear to my heart, through this delightful Virtual Choir rendition of "It Don't Mean A Thing".
