Newtownards Christmas Collection at the Pump · 24 November 2020

This Christmas, love builds hope in some of the world's toughest places. Whether you are organising a church collection or taking on a personal challenge, your fundraiser will help communities still facing crisis around the world.

Story

Newtownards & District Christian Aid Committee brings together representatives from 11 local churches and various denominations.

Each year in the week before Christmas, the Committee sets out an old-fashioned water pump for three days in Conway Square to collect money for Christian Aid projects. Over the past 35 years, the sums raised have supported water projects or disaster relief in many countries, particularly in Africa.

This Christmas, our fundraising aims to help some of the poorest communities in our world to feed their families.

One of the poorest countries being supported by Christian Aid is Ethiopia – a struggling nation of 115 million people. This year they have experienced a severe drought creating near famine conditions. All this, while a major conflict threatens to become a civil war, Covid-19 rages and few people have access to vaccinations.

We might think that our pounds can do little to make people’s lives better, but the role of Christian Aid and its partners is to create sustainable improvements in living conditions so that food can be grown more efficiently, water conserved and people given hope for a better future.

All of the money raised will support a range of practical projects being run in local communities. Lots of gifts will mean lots of help. With your gift we can match, or exceed, the total of almost £3,100 raised last Christmas.

We thank you for considering this project and we trust that you will enjoy and be richly blessed this Christmas season.
