Story

In September 2013, Macmillan won the vote to become National Grid's employee chosen charity partner.  Our two-year partnership aims to raise £500,000 for people affected by cancer which, will help fund 2,500 fuel grants for those who can't afford to keep themselves warm.

National Grid's Corporate Affairs Director, George Mayhew was keen to engage with employees to take part in a physical endurance challenge with a difference that linked to our business of connecting people to energy.  The suggestion of lifting the weight of our new T-pylons came to mind and so the idea became a reality.

Aim of our team challenge:  To lift as many T-pylons (42 tonnes) as possible over a 4-hour period through a range of 4 core movements.  These include; Barbell Press, Squat, Deadlift and the option of either Pull-ups or Lateral Pull-downs.

The challenge: Each participant will be partnered with a fellow lifter where they will share four exercise stations to carry out the 4 core movements mentioned above over a 60-minute period.

Event date: 28th September 2014

Time: 11:30 - 14:30pm

Location: Stoneleigh Performance Fitness Centre, The International Pavilion, 10th Street, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, CV8 2LZ.  Colleagues, friends and family are welcome to come along and support the team.
