We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Story

NHBC and Habitat for Humanity

NHBC has adopted Habitat for Humanity (HFH) as our national charity. We are also a founding partner and key sponsor of HFH's - 'HopeBuilders' campaign.

HFH is a housing charity working in around 100 countries, whose aim is to eradicate poverty housing and homelessness worldwide. Since the charity was founded in 1976, they have built more than 200,000 homes for over one million people. The families who live in the homes invest up to 500 hours of their own labour and pay back the cost of the homes over time and at a rate they can afford. HFH make no profit on this and all repayments go into a revolving fund to pay for more homes to be built.

HopeBuilders is HFH's latest campaign, which makes it possible for anyone, from an individual to a company, to build a home for someone in severe housing need.

Imtiaz Farookhi, NHBC's Chief Executive said: "NHBC has previously worked on Habitat for Humanity projects but this year we have taken the step of adopting HFH as our corporate charity. As well as being the founding partner and key sponsor of HFH's 'HopeBuilders' campaign, we have pledged to fund the equivalent of 100 typical homes in the developing world."
