Words from Jack...
I’m raising money for a fantastic charity, St Leonard's Hospice in York. This is because of the fantastic work they do for everyone but most importantly the care and treatment they have given to Nicky Howard, the kindest, most caring person I know and someone I’m lucky enough to call my Mum.
In June 2010, when I was 17 and Archie was 6, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. The chemo caused chemotherapy induced cardiomyopathy, for which she has to take medication for the rest of her life.
Then in 2015 the cancer returned, and had spread to her brain and liver. She then again had more chemo, whole brain radiotherapy and hormone therapy and is now back on chemo.
It’s treatable but not curable. She’s a fighter, a Saint and anyone who knows her, knows this couldn’t have happened to a nicer person.
The Sunflower Centre at St Leonard's Hospice is filled with the most amazing people who have not only sincerely helped my mum through a difficult time, but help so many other people.
I will admit I have been so naïve, never doing anything for charity, but not only are the people who work in this centre and the work it conducts a source of inspiration, the constant fight, determination and love my mum has shown battling through this hard time have inspired me to actually do something about it! And I’m hoping it inspires you to do the same!
So on the 16th September me and Phil Scaife will be running the 20k Yorkshire Warrior at Ripley Castle and would love any support and donations that you could make in support of this amazing charity and keep up the fantastic work it does. Please dig deep!
