Story
Ok,
Those who know me, know I love my hair and its one of my favourite qualities - I love changing the colour, and style, I get bored quite easily and over the years I have been a guinea pig several times for my sister -in-law!
I've been dark., I was born very dark, almost black, at one stage I did question whether I was adopted! Then it changed mousey brown, and Dad had my hair cropped short like a boy! its been highlighted, low lighted, red, chestnut, mahogany, blonde, pink and a few shades in between.
I started going blonde again a few years ago to hide the silver sparklies that were beginning to show after the last few stressful years, unitl it was completely blonde and people started to get me and Louise mixed up. So then , I went pink, light pink/greyish, which I loved, and then an accidental home dye job of cerise pink!!
So , the reason I'm writing this is, we are now in a very strange time, in isolation and having to social distance and stay at home to prevent the Covid 19 virus spreading and making people very sick.
So we must protect ourselves, protect the NHS and the vulnerable people who are at risk and already suffering from the thousands of other illnesses. We are all in this together, worldwide.
It's not what we planned, we cannot control it, just be responsible and do our bit to help. It’s really rubbish not being able to see our families, friends, parents and grandparents and it can feel very lonely, but it won't be forever. I feel blessed to have my 2 gorgeous girls at home to keep me busy and entertained!
So this year now, its struck me that Si's golf memorial day and fundraiser will not be going ahead in May so Ive been thinking of another way I can raise money from home.
It was really apparent last week in our 1st week of social distancing and then lockdown, how many people started to panic about their hair and how they wouldn't be able to have their regular cut and colours, me inc! And now all the men are going to be sporting the buzz cut or growing an afro!
I felt so vain and thought of all those cancer sufferers enduring treatment and no choice but to lose their hair, eyelashes and eyebrows.
So, HERE GOES.... why not take the plunge and BRAVE THE SHAVE, and get a buzz cut to raise money for the hospice and the wonderful care they are still providing 24/7 through this difficult time. It's only hair and it will grow back eh?💆🏼♀️💇♀️
Many won't know, but Si actually did this 20years ago too, and shaved his 90's curtains off to fundraise for a special baby care unit: and he never grew it back! I think I will!😉
Last year I achieved the biggest thing in my life to date, when I completed the London Marathon, 2 weeks after what would have been Si's 40th birthday, and I raised over £5.5k!! I loved every moment, and was so proud of myself!
So , this year, a bit different, we are staying at home, and social distancing so I thought what better way to celebrate Si's birthday on the 15th April?
I will shave my lovely locks off, donate the hair to 'The Little Princess Trust' to make wigs for little girls and hopefuly raise lots for St. Davids Hospice.
No I haven't gone mad, or doing a Britney, 🤣 and I'm very nervous and scared, but not half as much as those who don't have a choice.
I know money is tighter than usual at the moment with many facing financial worry, but if you can all spare a couple of pounds, the amount will definately mount up.
Donating a pound or two is far easier than what I'm about to do!!😬
I am going to set a target of £500 - if I don't reach this target by then, I won't do it!
Unfortunately, I wont be able to make a social evening of it (as I always imagined when I've had these thoughts before!!😆) and won't be able to have my top hairdresser/ sister in law Carys to do it for me. (She is gutted!)
So, I will be trusting my daughters to do it for me!!! And maybe inviting you all to a live party on Facebook for moral support?!
So there goes...Ive talked enough, thanks for reading.
I'm committing, so all I've got to do now is ask for your help to get to £500!
Thanks so Much..
Nia x
