A few weeks ago, my mother passed away from cancer, she was the most remarkable person and is and always will be my hero. Despite having challenges throughout her life she never wavered in her commitment to her family, she was kind to everyone including people who probably didn’t deserve it and she constantly put others before herself. As a family we are lost without her but we know she is looking over us and with us every day.
My mum was a woman of tremendous faith and recently visited Knock, she prayed to Our Lady every day and nobody was as happy to be anywhere as she was in Knock. That is why I have chosen it as the finish line for this challenge.
I have done fundraising for many charities over many years and my mum was always the first to donate or help in any way she could. From getting sponsors to flipping burgers at charity events and everything in between, my mum helped me immensely.
This will be the farthest I have ever attempted to run in one go, and is not something that I have taken the decision to do lightly. This will also be the most personal run I have ever done as it will be in memory of the person I love and admire the most, so I had to do something bigger than usual.
She would tell me I am not wise, that I deserve everything I get and she would call me 20 times during the run but she would also support me in any way she could because that is what she always did. She was the best mum in the world, I miss her more every day and if I can raise some money for Marie Curie, who were so good in helping us care for mum, I know she would be proud.
Love you mum xxx
