Story
I grew up watching the swimmers since the late 80’s grease themselves up and jump in to swim across to Helvick from where I live in Ballinacourty. It’s been a life long goal to do this race (the greasing up is the highlight clearly) and I have only been able to once back in 2019 and I am thrilled to be able to do it again this year. I am coming back from Perth Australia where the winter ocean temperatures are still way above what temperature it will be on the day of the Helvick swim. This is a great challenge that raises vital funds in support of the lifeboats. Instead of a signup fee, participants are requested to fundraise for the event by creating their own fundraiser page to generate donations. I am doing the 4km event and I cannot wait to get off the plane and into the sea in my lovely home town of Dungarvan. Let's keep the lifeboats going for another year!
