Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This is Nichola's story:-

Nichola was first diagnosed with a Grade 2 brain tumour in 2012 and valiantly underwent surgery. Such was her resolve that she discharged herself a day later!! During the following 6 weeks of Radiotherapy she walked on average 3-4 miles a day to meet me rather than have me come back home and pick her up to take her to Preston for her treatment. She even continued to do circuit training twice a week! She was determined not to let cancer change her life.

In December 2016 the symptoms returned and she again underwent surgery to de-bulk the tumour and have another biopsy. This showed the tumour had become its most aggressive and was now classed as a Grade 4. She was informed it was now terminal and had on average 18-24 months to live. Undeterred she continued living life to the full, while under going Radiotherapy and courses of Chemotherapy tablets. We made it our mission to visit as many different tea shops in the North West as possible!

We continued to look for trial therapies but it seems the funding or the research is not currently there at  this time so nothing became available.

In December 2017 she was admitted to hospital with severe back pain and underwent surgery for a spinal tumour. This as it turned out was related to her brain tumour  - a one in a million chance and only the 3rd case her consultant had seen in his career. Not a statistic you want to be part of. As a consequence of this she was paralyzed from the chest down, devastating for someone who was so physically active and loving of life. She had loved to walk, drive, scuba dive and even parascended when we holidayed in France once.

She spent  the next two months in hospital, and we managed to get her home for a few days so she could spend time with the kittens we had just recently got together.

On the 23rd February Nichola lost her fight and passed away peacefully at Trinity Hospice, Blackpool.

Her funeral will be held at 12pm at Lytham Crematorium on Wednesday 7th March 2018.

Nichola was a kind, caring woman who made friends easily and took nothing for granted. She had a special affinity and love for animals, so much so that she became a vegetarian since the age of 12. She will be fondly remembered by all that knew her.

No-one should have to go through this so please donate so we can at least start to try and find a cure for brain cancer.
