Ironman 70.3, Pescara, Italy · 18 June 2017
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 18th June 2017 I will be taking part in my third half Ironman challenge! The event is taking place in Pescara, Italy so heat maybe an added challenge, temperatures are expected to be between 25c and 35c! For those that don’t know, a half Ironman is basically a longer version of triathlon, 70.3 miles in distance and incorporating the following disciplines and distances which have to completed one after the other in the following order:
Swim 1.3 miles (Open water, sea swim)
Bike 56 miles (Hilly, involves two hill climbs of 450m elevation)
Run 13 miles (Flat, thankfully but weather likely to be hot!)
To help motivate me to complete this challenge I am hoping to raise money for a wonderful charity that I’ve been involved with for many years and this is the Sheffield Family Holiday Fund (SFHF). Since 1976, the charity has helped over 17,000 adults and children in Sheffield enjoy some kind of a break or holiday. The families supported struggle with life’s challenges with many dealing with issues of sudden family illness, bereavement, disability, mental health and abuse. Each year we aim to raise in the region £25K to pay for day trips and holidays for disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
SFHF is 100% funded by donations and is run by a board of trustees on a purely voluntary basis. It is administered by the national charity the Family Holiday Association. SFHF directly supports families who are referred to it by professionals in the local community, such as teachers, social workers, health visitors and other charities in Sheffield.
Any donation no matter small will be greatly appreciated and help not only me reach the finish but also help a family in need.
Many thanks
Nick
