Story

20th July - Closing down

Actually one more update.  This website will be closed in two weeks time. So if you still wish to donate please do so within the next few days.  Once again thank you so much for your support.

16th July - one final update to say thanks again to all you fantastic sponsors both on and off-line.  As a result of your kind generosity the donation total has now exceeded £3k which is 50% above my target. I'm 'made up' as they say and Papyrus will be blessed by wonderful support.

Tuesday 1st July - Nick's update - over the finishing line!

Friends, family and other good people visiting the site... the good news is that I have made it on schedule. At 4pm on Sunday 29th June I crossed the finishing line - yes really - no kidding. 630 miles done and dusted. I appreciate that some may have doubted whether I could get there and that includes myself.  But with the most fantastic weather - only 3 days of heavy, continuous rain - and some foot maintenance along the way it has been achieved.

I had a bad fall - slipping off the rock - in my fourth week and twisted my knee quite badly.  This took a while to recover and I needed to use knee bandage (and frozen vegetables!) for a number of days.  That was the only serious injury and the blisters and other aches and pains were manageable.

I thought the experience would be good but it was magnificent and ranks up there with anything I have ever done. The scenery every day was spectacular with only a few boring, tedious bits.  For those in the know walking 4 miles by the railway line out of Penzance to Marazion is one to miss.

The giving target has already been reached with some off-line donations not recorded - so I must send a huge thank you to all who have contributed. The money you have given could help in saving a young person's life - something you should be really proud of.

Now there may be some out there who were waiting to see if I could get over the finishing line, doubting my commitment and endurance. Well that excuse has now gone! So if you are willing and able adding your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway must dash ...need to go for a long walk!

Background

For those visiting the web site for the first time the story is that this trek has been an ambition of mine for some time.  630 miles from Minehead to Poole sounds a long way but giving myself 2 months to accomplish it at least gives me a chance.  Some parts have been washed away in storms but as long as I keep the sea on my right I should find my way!

As to the charity I have chosen some further explanation is required. My brother took his own life when he was 17 and I was just 14.  This had huge ramifications for my parents and myself. We tried to understand the 'why' but there was never any clear answers and although we came to terms with what happened we never got over it.  My parents have passed away now and I feel it is fitting to undertake this long walk in Chris's name to raise some funds which will hopefully go towards preventing the death of another young person.

So - as they say - please give generously!
