CLDF and the British Liver Trust have merged - we are the only UK charity for all liver conditions. We support parents, children, young people and adults affected, through tailored support and information, and we campaign for improved early detection and better treatment and care.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At an early age of 17 I received a blood transfusion following a motorcycle accident, through no fault of my own. The result of which left me with Hepatitis C due to contaminated blood. After 20+ years my liver had started to deteriorate and cirrhosis had begun to set in. Following a number of treatments over a period of 3 - 5 years from a wonderful team at Bradford Royal Infirmary, the Hepatitis C was not giving up and in 2014 my liver was ready for replacement. I was the luckiest person alive the day I signed up for the transplant list. Within 4 hrs of signing up, another wonderful team at St James hospital Leeds were busy swapping my liver for a new one. Thank you to someone who gave when they passed away, I just happened to be a perfect match and in the right place at the right time. following the transplant I have slowly gained full fitness way beyond that which I experienced pre opp. And although the Hep C is still lurking I feel I have been given a new lease of life. I am now on a new course of drugs which are having a positive effect and would like to pay back my gratitude to both teams at both BRI and St James.

Hopefully with fingers crossed assuming the new drugs do their job by the time we come to do this challenge I will be rid of the Hep C and my only concern will be to look after what I have been given.

Myself, my colleagues from work and friends will be walking the 26 miles over the 3 highest peaks in Yorkshire in hopefully under 12hrs.
