In many rural areas across the globe children are denied access to basic needs due to the barrier of distance. World Bicycle Relief’s mission is to provide sustainable, appropriate bicycles to mobilise and empower individuals and communities so they can travel to schools, clinics and markets.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been training to ride from Lands End in Cornwall to John O'Groats in Scotland.  A journey of 1,012 miles, in 12 days.

As part of my training, which I started in January, I cycled through many video-based training plans (thanks to thesufferfest.com) on my turbo trainer in the garage.  At the end of each video, there is often a short film showing someone do something crazy on a bike which is great fun as you warm down.

But one of those films is from World Bicycle Relief showing the story of a teenage girl in Kenya who is now able to get to school reliably as she now has a bike, provided by WBR, and can save the 10-mile+ walk each way along treacherous roads.  There's a lot more to the story than that but it is heartwarming to see the newly enhanced life that can be lived and fulfilled - just by adding in a bike!

These bikes are purpose-built and cost £120 each.  I hope I can raise enough money to add at least one more, if not many more.

If I'm going to cycle for "fun", I hope to enable someone else to cycle to live.
