Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 1952 my grandfather Edwin Owen founded the Shropshire Deaf Children’s Society. In celebration of his work, the upcoming 65th anniversary of the SDCS and their continuing efforts, I have decided to take part in a challenging bike ride from Lands End to John o’ Groats.
I will be riding the length of Britain over 9 days covering a distance of 960 plus miles. The route between Hamilton and Fort William on day 7 totals 126 miles with 6,000ft of ascent - proper job! I take my place in the starting line-up on 5th September and will finish at John o’ Groats on Sunday 13th September.
Visitors are welcome at any of the base stations at the end of each day (see link below for route plan). Stations closest to the midlands are Ludlow day 3 or Haydock day 4 so let me know if you fancy meeting up for a pint in the beer tent. There won’t, however, be any 10 pint challenges until after day 9 I hasten to add!

Before any doping allegations are made I must confess my only vices are excessive quantities of milk and flapjack! I reckon I’m smashing at least 350g of rolled oats and 6 pints of milk every 48hrs whilst putting the training miles in. The next event in the build-up to the big ride is the Shropshire Mynd 2015 on 2 August – still time for the bikers amongst you to sign up!
The ride is entirely self funded and any donations received go straight to Shropshire Deaf Children’s Society who offer friendship and advice to children and young people with all levels of hearing loss – they also provide information and helpful contacts together with funding specialist equipment to improve listening in classrooms and homes.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks for reading and for any sponsorship received in support.
