Story

My niece, Eliza, suffers from Rett Syndrome.

With Rett you have a beautiful baby girl. She starts feeding, making noise, manipulating her limbs, even saying a few words.

Just like the text books say say she should, just like your other kids/friends other kids did, she even takes a few steps, then, things stop.

Then development regresses, it takes months to be diagnosed but the outlook isn't good.

She has Rett Syndrome, development isn't  going to go any further, she will probably regress.

As far as we know, her brain works fine, probably better than most. She manages to smile despite the hell she is being put through.

Eye gaze technology can help but it's very difficult without linguistic skills to begin with.

Rett syndrome steals life from innocent young girls. It's thankfully rare but consequently underfunded.

Animal trials demonstrate how Rett can actually be reversed! I'm not kidding, not that things 'may get a bit better' or science may be able to help her walk or talk a bit but - REVERSED.

It's a few years since Eliza was diagnosed, that diagnosis changed many lives. Thanks to her parent's endless effort she can now walk a little and lives the best life she can.

I'm going for a run around Manchester in May, it's going to take a lot of training to avoid completely embarrassing myself but I'll give it a go.

Me going for a run is relatively nothing but any money raised could really make a difference, there is a cure.
