London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·

This year's London Marathon team will raise funds in honour of DSWF Founder, David Shepherd, who dedicated 60 years of his life to saving endangered wildlife. They will continue his legacy.

Story

I will be taking part in the London marathon this year, alongside a fantastic group of runners, united in our special cause to raise as much as we can for… ‘In His Footsteps’ Appeal has been set up by DSWF in memory of the charity’s founder, the late, David Shepherd. The focus of this appeal is to raise funds for a new Education Centre in Zambia which will be essential in increasing awareness about the plight of wildlife and the impact of poaching. Over the past 10 years, in Zambia as well as many other Southern and Central African countries, estimated levels of illegal elephant killings have been occurring at unsustainable levels relative to natural population growth, meaning elephant populations are dying.
Programs such as this, have arisen to protect elephants, reduce human-elephant conflict and educate local communities. This project is particularly important as it centred in the heart of Zambia (Lusaka National Park) so will reach a huge number of communities, and citizens of a variety of backgrounds and ages
